This annoys me

Ok so there's a lot that annoys me lately but this is one thing. While scrolling through Facebook I see the above item. 45 immature Home Décor Mistakes. Out of sheer boredom I clicked on it to see what they though were the mistakes.

Just who does the writer of this article think they are that they can tell someone their décor choices are immature. Decorating should be done to suit your own personal taste. Sometimes decorating has to be done on the cheap. If all you can afford is plastic drawers then so be it.

  • They said chevron was so overdone that it's an unacceptable pattern
  • Don't use the phrase "live, laugh, love" because it's been over used far too much
  • Posters are a big no unless you are high school or college age. After that they just show how immature you are
  • If you're over 20 plastic drawers should be donated or used in the garage because a house should be plastic free
  • Apparently anything from Ikea should only be bought if you are furnishing and decorating a first apartment and can't afford anything else.
  • Choosing too many colors was out too because you might cause yourself or your guests anxiety from all that color.
After that I just couldn't go on. If you like a ton of different colors splashed around a room then go for it. If you love a chevron pattern then use it. What all these so called experts fail to see is that not everyone shares their sense of style. We all like what we like and shouldn't be shamed for liking it.

I agree with you! And I have plenty of plastic drawers as well, DOZENS. I have never been one to follow fads, unless I really like them. I do what I think looks good, regardless of what is in style or not. We are all different, that's what makes the world go around.

I couldn’t agree more! I’m sure most people would say I have poor taste, and it doesn’t matter. Fat chance I would ever invite them into this apartment I love.

Do you really want MY opinion on this? Okay...here goes. Just why did you click on this in the first place? Then...it's all about personality, budget, likes & dislikes. I agree. But, Facebook?... a nap would've been better than going into this!! (Kidding)

I'm with you all the way, Ann. I don't speak "yuppie" & I don't live in "Yuppieland"!!!! That's all this is, in my view. ~Andrea xoxo

I agree with you 100 percent and would have clicked if i saw it. just to see how crazy it would be... these people live in a world we will never know. and don't want to. for a few years if i had a little time i watched her show and a few others, but then i got sick of people making ugly comments about homes they were looking at that looked just like mine, which i love fine. maybe we could pick a room, post it on our blog and pick apart what we hate...the thing is everyone likes something different. and the one show i liked only lasted one season, it was about decorating from the dollar stores..

I don't have an FB and I'm glad I shouldn't be annoyed by all the stupid posts from there! But otherwise I agree with you!

I agree with you Ann that we decorate to our own taste whether it's considered immature or whatever by someone else. If someone is bothered by my décor they can leave. ^^

I am with you...I always wonder who these people think they are.

Oh my word don't get me started - 'professional' decorators and renovators all have taste up their butts in my opinion. When I renovated my kitchen 2 years ago all anyone kept telling me was "No one does that" as if I cared! It was my kitchen and it had to work for ME. Unfortunately people renovate and decorate for "re-sale" value - white Shaker kitchen cabinets make me scream in horror, subway tiles make me shudder and white carpet? Seriously? Who does that? and yet if you look at homes for sale that's all you see - around here anyway. Anyone who does what these so called professionals tell them, regardless of their own taste and preferences are the immature ones!

I totally agree Ann. If they came to my house I'd get an F in decorating for sure!

There are to many people who know more than everyone else and you should just listen to them. This person is a clod. Full of herself and probably very miserable.

Now you know why I deleted my Facebook, and Twitter accounts.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

I watched a You Tube video like this last night. It was a fashionable, quirky guy making snide comments about decor. His job is doing just that, though, so I suppose he has to find things to talk about. Everything he showed looked fine to me... egads!

That has annoyed me many times before! I once remember seeing on FB a lady posted a photo of a couch she was thinking about buying and it was a older style with wood on the arms. Boy did she get criticized for even thinking about it! I was annoyed because I have a very similar love seat that I've kept because it's very comfortable and works where I have it! My thought has always been buy what you love!

I think the only time you should check out "trends" are when you are doing a major renovation or if you are preparing your house for sale. Both require different approaches, but let me tell you from one whose son is house shopping these days--it is best for resale to keep it somewhat simple and current in hard finishes. Prepping for a sale requires CLEANING and updating walls to neutral colors.

As for decorating for day to day living, who cares what anyone says? Live how you like to live!

The person in the photo is Joanna Gaines (Fixer Upper) and while I like their show I wouldn't necessarily decorate my house the way she does because like you said, to each their own.

That really is silly! Everyone has different tastes and there's no one style that is perfect for everyone. I thought it was funny when they said stainless steel appliances were the only acceptable ones...that will change over time...like avocado green in the 70s! heehee!

Less is more, If you don't own it, then it doesn't have to be thrown away later.

Just remember what an "ex=spirt" is: a drip that has dried up! 😂
And decorate to your tastes, not someone else's.

I do have to agree. ALTHOUGH, I have seen some decor stuff that to me really looks like someone chewed something up and then threw it up! haha...I have never been one to follow trends. Just like the grey stage. I do not do grey paint in my house. I tend to go with a beige, off white or something like that. I go with what I like.
