One drive sends emails with "memories from this day" The other day this one was in my email.
This year my peonies look nothing like this. It has lots of buds on the plant but none of them are open and I don't see one single ant. Normally it's crawling with them. The above picture was 6/2/2022. This is what they looked like on 6/2/2023

Oh goodness, where are the ants? Perhaps you could borrow the ant farm of a neighbor child!
Ginny’s idea is perfect. I have only recently learned how important these ants are to the peony.
I've never heard about the ants and the peony! But the buds look promising!

the bud at the end is beautiful and I do hope they can open and bloom without the ants. I do remember our conversation about those ants last year. I wonder if mosquitos have a PURPOSE other than biting us
That is a huge diference!
Well that's a bummer! I wonder why the buds didn't open? I've heard that ants are beneficial to the buds opening and then I've heard that ants have nothing to do with it! Whatever, I'm sorry they open for you this year.
As soon as you mentioned the peonies I thought about ants. Our neighbor has them back in Illinois and I couldn't believe all the ants they had on them. Hope they open up for you. That last one looks like it is starting to open.
I didn't know about the peony and ants!!
Perhaps yours are just late bloomers this year. They are just starting to open up around here.
I just looked up about the ants and peonies and it said that it is just an old wives tale and your peonies should open just fine without them. :)
Andy can’t remember the name peony, he calls them the “ant plants.” 😊
i'm near the mason dixon line in pa and my peonies are all but dead. Love them, they just need to last a bit longer, for me.
I have never had one of these plants but they are beautiful. I went to Lowes and picked up some lemon grass and I went to a yard sale today, they were selling organic blueberry bushes.....got me on.
the buds loook promising but I'm curious about the ants, I wonder how the commercial growers do, as ants wouldn't look good in a flower shop...
