Use it or lose it

I have a really bad habit of buying craft supplies and then not using them because I have a fear of screwing things up and wasting perfectly good material. However, I fail to see that I'm wasting perfectly good money on the materials that I buy and then don't use.

I've had some vinyl to use with my cricut machine but in typical Ann fashion it's sat because I might mess up. Well guess what? I decided to try a project and do you know what happened? I screwed up the first time. But the world kept turning, nothing crashed down on top of me and I learned a little something in the process.

The plan was to add an SVG file I found on Cutting for business to a cutting board. I purchased a white cutting board from Dollar Tree and this is what I made.

Since this didn't turn out too bad I tried out another idea. I'll show you that one tomorrow.

me to on Ginnys I LOVE IT... great idea... can't wait to see the next one. if this is one you screwed up I can't tell you did. since I cry inside each time I spend a cent on anything, I don't do the buy and not use. I don't use things because I refuse to buy them. I have been looking at a pair of earrings I really want, and just can't make myself buy them. 20.00 and I just got an email they are now 16. but is till will not buy them...

I do love that saying - (and since there is little probability that I will be cooking for you anytime soon, I can admit that that is SOP in my kitchen!)

Ohhhhh, how darling!!!!! And so true in our kitchen too. :-D I think your feelings about "messing things up" is quite common, Ann. Have you ever watched Maremi's Small Art on YouTube? She is a WONDERFUL gal who posts art videos and is all-the-time telling folks to use their art supplies. She's so encouraging and is constantly saying "That's ok!" when she messes up as well. Give her a watch, if you have time. I think you too will be encouraged to use your art supplies via Marta. :-) Love, Andrea xoxo

Are you sure we are not sisters? I do the exact same things with stuff...get it and am afraid of messing up so it just sits. And is a waste of money. And at least if we mess up, like you say the world doesnt stop spinning...and we actually get something fir our money.

Oh, forgot to say I love what you made!

I love it...that is too cute. Hey, messing up is part of learning. I always called that a learning curve.

Glad you made that because it totally made me smile. Have a great week!

I love it too. :) Good for you for realizing that buying materials and letting them just sit there are a waste. It's much better to assume that they are there for your education. Focus on what you are learning, not the end result. If it turns out great, that's frosting on the cake. If it doesn't, you have at least learned a lot and not wasted anything.

yes, Maremi is really fun to watch - and I got a lot of ideas from her, when I needed them...

love it...hope you can create more and more...I seem to recall when I arrived here at this blog, you said you had lost your mojo; understandable but now look at where you are flying....

Thanks

My logical brain tells me that but there is that little part that is so afraid of messing up materials

aww thanks

I don't know why I've always been like that but it's a bad habit that's hard to break. I'm working on it though

Thanks. I hope I can too. I don't know if the mojo is back full force or not but I'm hoping it sticks around for a bit any way
