What a pita

Who knew that trying to make your very last mortgage payment ever could be such a PITA (and I'm not talking about the bread)

The payment was due on May 1 but I have until the 15th to pay without getting a late charge. I went online to make the payment on Thursday May 2. I got a message saying that they were unable to process my request and to call the 800 number for assistance.

May3, after work I tried one more time to make the payment online. Still got the same message so I tried the 800 number. The person I talked to said that I needed to get a payoff statement and then send a certified check for the last payment. She also told me the payoff amount and the escrow balance amount. She informed me that my taxes had been paid but that I would have to pay the homeowners insurance but the current policy was paid until October. She said that I could go to a local branch to get the payoff statement or they could mail me one. I figured going to a branch was easier and quicker so I would do that.

May 6 was the first opportunity I had to go to a local PNC branch. I got there shortly after opening and went to the teller and informed her of what I needed. Between her, the person on the phone and another employee who was standing there, they informed me that they were not able to provide an accurate payoff and that I would need to call the 800 number.
Back home I get on the phone again and talk to another person. This one apparently had more knowledge. She told me that since I had a higher escrow balance than principal balance they could take the final payment from that and then send me the remainder. They will also mail me a copy of the payoff. The information also goes to the county who will then in turn release the deed.

Long story short, I no longer have a mortgage payment although I haven't gotten the official paper work. Would you like to do a happy dance with me?

Whooohoooo!! Congratulations! well, that ought to help the cash flow a LOT, right?!

I'm laughing because I called for a payoff quote for our car note. Of course, the car is in Joe's name and they won't give me any info...so I just call and say that I am Joe. I know his ss#, birthday, mom's maiden name and all that good stuff...so what is the deal? Well, the dame kept trying to get me to say that I was not Joe, asking me all sorts of questions that, of course, I knew the answer to! Do strangers really call to get pay off quotes for people??? Is this really a big problem??

LOL, if someone wants to call and request a payoff quote on my vehicle I hope they give it to them because I don't object to someone else paying off the loan for me. I can understand taking a loan out but paying it off, really?
