Look what just flew in

All that sitting in the grass playing with the weeds finally paid off. I managed to get a couple pictures of birds. They aren't the best but I'll take what I can get.
This one I enlarged quite a bit because I was quite a ways away when I took it. If I would have posted the original you would be sitting there saying "yeah, sure there's a bird there Ann"
This one was just a little too busy chowing down to turn around and say cheese for me.
I just love going out in the backyard and hearing all the singing going on in the trees. I don't always see them but I can hear them and I know they're there.

I've not seen a bird that coloring before. Sure is a pretty bird too. I am just like you, I love to hear the birds sing. Just makes me smile every time.

Have a terrific day. My very best to Duke. :)

Wow! Gorgeous! You sure don't see birds like that here in Texas ... Love the first one!

I have not seen one like the first one before either. It is really pretty. I have seen a lot of robin and cardinals here in VA, but nothing unusual yet.

Ann said...

Roschelle, thanks. The bird is a female goldfinch. The male is a brighter yellow and have a black head

Sandee if you think this one is pretty you should see the male. They make me smile too

Christine too bad you don't have these in Texas, I think this is one of my favorites.

Tanyia we have tons of robins and I've spotted a couple cardinals plus a blue jay. The finches come around quite often. As for unusual, haven't spotted anything here yet

Pretty Gold finch! One of my favorite birds!

Very pretty finch! We all just love watching the birds too but lately they haven't been around. Not sure where they've gone to but hopefully they return again soon.

That is one pretty little bird! Never saw a purple bird before

Ann, That is a very nice capture of the female Gold Finch! They come and go here all year long. I never mind if someone crops or improves their pictures by adjusting the light or contrast.

Chickadees are like that. They seldom pose.... for me at least.:) Plus they are very quick. You got lucky.

That's a great picture! I know, when I was working out in the backyard last year, the birds got so used to me that they would come to the feeders while I was outside. The ducks even started staying.
The only problem: I forgot to have a camera out there with me.

Your backyard is awesome! It even got bird "terminal" for them to rest :)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH what a pretty little bird! Funny how we all wanted to know what kind of bird it was (guess it's a good thing you had the answer ready :o)

Nice pictures Ann. I love the Gold Finch. We usually see the Yellow ones the most. Or at least they really stick out. You can't miss them.
Have a good Weekend.

Fantastic shots Ann! :-)

Whoa, I don't think I've ever seen a bird with purple wings before. Is that picture unretouched, or are you messing with my head again?

Donna said...

Goodness!! Look at those purple wings!! Beautiful shot!

Great capture Ann.They never pose so you shoot lots when you get a chance.

The bird is awesome! When ever I have tried to enlarge a photo of a squirrel or bird they don't look good.

Your photos came out really good, considering you enlarged them. How's Duke doing?

That first picture is a beautiful bird. Glad you got some pictures of the birds. I love to watch birds. I want to learn how to enlarge pictures or get better close ups?? Do you use Photoshop to do that??? I have some pictures of some cats that I would love to see closer up but I can't get close to the cat. She is wild.
Have a really good week end.

You are becoming quite a photographer, Ann! I am really bad at taking pictures of birds!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my W-post! Glad I don't have to meet up with any bears or wolves. But it sure would be fun to meet Duke one day!
Hugs,
Anna

Thanks for sharing your morning with us. I love the colors of the finch. We used to have them in abundance here, but for some reason they have mostly disappeared. Or maybe I'm just not as patient at waiting for them to appear.

Hugs to Duke.

LDH mine too

beaded tail I haven't noticed quite as many out on my feeders the past week

sugar thanks

vickie so glad to see you again. glad you liked my pics

manoverboard I think Duke was in the house when I got this one otherwise I probably wouldn't have gotten it

Grace they are pretty but I think the purple is just bad lighting when I took the picture. I'm pretty sure that's black

Jean I do love the goldfinch although I would much rather see the male since he's so much brighter. For me, they're all quick...lol

Tahtimbo usually when I go out without the camera there are more birds out there, I should hide it as I'm going out the door and maybe they won't know

vanilla seven it's not a bad yard, the birds have the feeder and the bird bath to enjoy

Russ Oh I know the male goldfinch is incredible

DKMiller thank you very much

fishhawk yes no and maybe so. The picture was enlarged so you could see the bird and I may have lightened it a bit but I didn't mess with the color. I think the purple is just because of the lighting at the time I took it

Donna you have a great weekend too

Dida yep the birds singing is a good stress reliever. Happy to stop by and visit your wonderful blog

out on the prairie they usually only give me long enough to get one shot before they fly away. I'm a bit slow with the camera I guess

Nico it didn't help that I also took the picture with the lens zoomed all the way out.

urban cowboy Duke is doing great as usual, and thanks

Marg I use photoshop elements you can get a few good editing programs free

Anna well I'm trying anyway. I don't always get good pictures but I have fun taking them.

Ann said...

Jen, nitwit me how did I miss you in there...lol I got lucky on that one, thank goodness it was one I knew :)

Ann said...

Leeuna, I've been seeing quite a bit of them this year from a distance any way. I don't have the patience to sit and wait out there to get closer shots.

Ann, that bird is exquisite. What a great shot, you've captured each detail so well. She is a pretty one.

poetic shutterbug I was pretty amazed that it looked that good when I enlarged it. I was pretty far away when I took it.
