Hibernation Day 1

Friday we may not have gotten as much snow as the were calling for but it sure made up for it on Saturday. It's a regular winter wonderland out there.

My plan for a weekend of hibernation was definitely a good one. I woke early, thanks to Duke's insistence. Why he felt it necessary to get me up so early I really don't know. He started nudging me at 3:30 but I managed to hold him off until 5:30.
Just as soon as he was let out it was time to grab some coffee and take care of some emails and read a few blogs. From there I moved to a nice comfy chair with my kindle and spent a few hours reading.
Letting Duke out the back door was becoming a little difficult due to the snow accumulation so I bundled up and headed outside to shovel out a spot for him.
Back inside and it was time to get cooking. What better to make for dinner today than a big pot of beef stew.
I haven't made this in years and I don't follow any recipe other than the meat, carrots and potatoes. I let this cook for about 3 hours adding different ingredients at different stages. I don't know what Wade thought but it sure hit the spot for me.
While the stew was cooking I even got some work done in my computer/craft room. It's been needing a good cleaning out and I put a sizable dent in that little project.

Yum, I love beef stew and this looks so good. I haven't made any in years, either. I must get my recipes out!

We've got the snow so I'll have to make the stew tomorrow. I haven't done it in a while but perfect weather for it.

It's been nice and cool here in Florida. So, we had beef stew Friday. I use the same ingredients as you and some seasoning. It was so good! Glad you enjoyed yours. :)

I guess everybody has beef stew on the brain! We are having that tonight! We didn't venture out further than the front steps today...LadyBug is still in recuperation mode.

Glad you got some kindling done today!!

I hope it doesn't cost a lot to get that dent fixed.

I love stew..it's the ultimate winter warmer...do you have it with dumplings?? DELICIOUS!!

No snow hear...to get snow it has to stop freezing and it hasn't done that for the past two days...the kids think it's weird when I tell them it's too cold for snow..lol

so you left your FIREPLACE and went out in the cold to shovel snow for your dog... like bob got up at 3:30 and turned on the heat for our dogs. we had chili for our cold snap, but this stew would have been just as good. this looks like what mother used to make. we ate ours over rice, do you? bob never ate rice until he married me. that is a precious snowman

Goodness that stew looks good. Nothing better that some good hot stew on a cold day. Sounds like you got some things done. Have a super Sunday now. Take care. Hugs to that Duke boy.

Your stew looks delish! I made turkey soup yesterday. Stew and soup is good for the soul on snowy cold days!

The things we do for our dogs huh? Getting up at 5:30 in the morning, going outside to shovel up an area for them to do their business. Us pet lovers are kind of crazy.

Sounds like a great weekend to me. You had stew, Duke and you got some reading in and did some cleaning too. I like it.

Have a terrific day. My best to Duke. :)

I stayed in all day too. I wouldn't like to get up at 5:30 though. You got a lot done. I can't think of anything better then stew on a snowy day.

I was glad to get the snow here--it gave me an excuse to just hunker in the house guilt-free. When it was warm, I always felt like I should have been out there walking and doing things out in the yard. It's gonna be cold all week here--I can't wait for more excuses. :P

The stew looks FABULOUS!

I bet the stew made your house smell wonderful! This is exactly the same way I spend my snowed-in days. Nesting.

That stew sure does look good! I love weekends of hybernation. We all need them. Poor Duke, he could get lost in the snow.

Warm food in a snow cave and a clean craft room? Sounds about perfect.

Oh that looks yummy and the perfect way to warm up and stay full. I love cooking without recipes and just adding what I like.

I haven't had an excuse for a day like this all winter and it's driving me crazy.

We don't usually have more than one or two heavy snowfalls in a season, but even for here the winter has been mild.

That stew, by the way, looks amazing.

We have three dogs who are also early risers. My entire family hates me because the dogs wake whoever else they stay with but always let me sleep in.

They're usually up at five o'clock but don't ever rouse me from bed, even if I sleep until noon. It's ridiculous and great.

Hello!

The stew looks wonderful! This winter has been so strange! Here in this part of WI we had 52 degrees one day and snow and 23 degrees the next! Wishing you a happy week!

Hugs,

Barbara Diane
