All in a day off

I had intended to make several phone calls on my day off. Nothing that is urgent just calls that need to be made. I started out in my usual slow paced Monday morning way. Coffee and computer. I then abandoned all thoughts of phone calls and instead went back to the job I started of cleaning crap out of my house. After going through a lot of things I discovered that there is a lot of stuff that just isn't worth the time and effort of anything but tossing it in the trash. There have been a couple things that I've offered to my daughter and son and I managed to have a large metal drafting table removed from my house. There will be a full trash can and a pile of boxes sitting at the curb for Wednesdays pick up.  It sure does feel good to get rid of a lot of this junk and I can't help but wonder why I've hung on to things for so long.

Once I've finished with the clean out then I'll start on painting. Anyone remember the red room? That will be the first one I work on.

Oh and the picture today is just random that I pulled out of the archives because I didn't have anything else. I see it's rather dusty.

I need to get rid of some old stuff too. You have to be in the mood...you're doing great! Keep going! Hugs!

Sometimes a jolt in your life pushes you to take a second look into the closets or drawers. We are doing that since the kids left home and we redid the kitchen. It is freeing to clear out the clutter and well worth the effort. I think we all just get into a busy routine and overlook it until one day you don't. Have fun tossing!

Sincer I am not a keeper of things I can offer no rationale as to why people do but I have to be honest when I say that I have on more than one occasion disposed of something only to need it a short time later (and isn't that always the case.) Painting! When I was young I enjoyed painting a room(s) now - nothing I would attempt. I am a lazy room painter tho - I have always painted the ceiling the same color as the walls - 'cutting in' is not a job for the faint hearted. But since my color of preference is a light yellow no problem with a lighter color on the ceiling to reflect light and all that yadda yadda. It just occurred to me - this apartment and my previous house were painted banana cream, and an apartment I had years (and years) ago I painted pineapple - Do you think I have a preference for light yellow LOL

Decluttering is a good thing. We've been doing that here. It's a really good thing.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Ann. Big hug to you and tons of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

Filled my car with clothing and gave it to a mission. I laughed passing a Goodwill and feeling I should stop on the way home, but kept on going.

Well done! Kudos to you. I'd be that way too, but Bud keeps things that may one day 'come in handy' so it's a losing battle for me.

I am. So far no treasures though, just a lot of junk.

For the first time ever, this house is all mine. No one else gets to say what stays, what goes, and whats inside it. I think it's really motivating me to make it MY space.

I wish I wasn't a keeper but the idea that some day I may need that is what often keeps me from getting rid of things. That and sentimental value.
As for painting, I've always hated it but the upstairs in my house hasn't been painted in probably close to 20 years and it's long overdue

It really is and there's is something very satisfying about an uncluttered space. I can't guarantee it will stay that way but I'm sure going to try

LOL, after getting rid of stuff why is it that it gives you the urge to check out the thrift shops.

I'm guilty of the keeping things because I might need them someday thing. I'm trying very hard to stop that

I've been doing a lot of that here, and it's a great use of our time. Good for you!

It is. I'm finding it hard to get anywhere with it on the days I work though. When I get home I only have so much time to get things done and it doesn't leave much time for the cleaning out.

I'm exploring my shed, a relatively large metal rectangle object - that has many boxes in...this time last year, I was supposed to get it underway. All I did was fix the boxes/bags not to get any more damp (it has leaks) BUT this year, I'm doing very well...and of the craft materials - I already have a small% going to a new home. And I'm feeling quite good about it all...yes there are some wonderful memories, some will end up in a thrift shop - whilst I believe my garbage bin will be on the street again real soon...

one of the reasons for last year, issues - was me-health issues...which finally did go off with a bang in August. However took me until early December to return to me-betterer :-)

I have a metal shed with a collapsing roof so it's no good for storage at all. I'm hoping come spring there will be someone here to tear it down.
I have a hard time getting rid of craft materials. I keep looking at things and thinking, I may need that some day.

I'll find any excuse not to make my phone calls that need to be made!!! I agree, I know when I start clearing things out to move that most of it will just be trashed. You are definitely keeping busy.
