Eye appointment

Yesterday was my eye appointment. All went well. I got the exam, picked out the frames and talked about what kind of lenses I wanted.

I had my choice of whether I just wanted a reader or just for distance or a bifocal. I went with the bifocal. Hopefully I'll be happy with the choice. When the doctor asked me how long it's been since my last eye exam he had to remind me that I should have my eyes checked ever 2 years not every 10. It really has been that long (at least) since my last eye exam. I've been getting along fine with just using the cheap readers and I probably would have gone longer had the case worker from OVR not said she would put a request in for glasses as well as hearing aids.

Speaking of hearing aids, today is the appointment for that. I go right after work and I'm hoping that the weather holds out. It's supposed to be really cold and there is a wind chill watch in effect from Wednesday morning till Thursday afternoon. Tonight's low is supposed to be -2 with a real feel of -22. I think the furnace is going to be working overtime.

Will you show your new glasses when you get them? Have your eyes changed much? I am glad that all went well. I also want a full report on the hearing aid, and how well it works for you!

If the 'polar vortex' is heading your way, brace yourself. This a.m. it is -25F feels like -43F, which here in Canada translates to -32C feels like -42C - it's a good thing the wind is light. My plans for the day have changed and I'm staying in - being retired I can do just that. :D Keep warm. Enjoy the new glasses.

so glad you got your glasses ordered, when you get them the first time you use them, it will take time to adjust to the bifocals. I assume they told you. but here I am offering free advice. hope you are able to get out today and be safe. the word polar vortex sounds serious.

BRRRR.....yep, the higher up you go in the states the colder it gets. It was 22 here in TN when I got up but I did not catch the feels like. I have tried the Bifocals twice but can't stand them. I use my glasses for distance, mainly just driving and if I need readers it is basically for close up projects or small type in books. Hoping you like yours, most people like them, I have to be the one that don't! Stay warm.

That reminds me....I haven't had mine checked in years either! Stay warm my friend!

My eyeglass situation is comical. I have always needed them for distance but last couple years I've started to need them for the computer too. I had progressives but broke them, and it was less expensive to get two basic than one upgrade. lol And I have 'script sunglasses, too. So I'm always on and off with 3 different ones.
My husband is starting the process with hearing aids. He has to go in again today.

Getting new glasses is a good thing. I'm way older than you so it's to the eye doctor every year. Usually we get new lenses each year. Getting old isn't for sissies.

I hope the weather holds so you can get home without issue.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥

People cannot afford to have regular eye exams--they are so expensive and so are contacts/glasses! So, yeah...I get it. I am so excited that you found a way to solve these problems. I can't wait to see your glasses!

Three cheers for that caseworker - she/he really pulled it all together for you! I wear glasses for distance and for the computer but don't need them to read - the opthamologist found this weird. My near vision has improved with age but at one point I needed both distance and near vision correction but I could never adjust to bifocals, nearly killed myself trying to negotiate stairs! I also now have age related macular degeneration in my right eye so I go to an opthamologist every 6 months to keep track of it and oddly enough an OTC supplement (AREDS 2) is what is prescribed for it. Hope the hearing aid appointment goes well and you get them quickly. The polar vortex will only affect us for 3 days - starts tonight by by Sunday temps are predicted to be in the low 50's. But then I am quite a bit South of you and you're by a large lake - man, the wind off the lake has got to be murder.

my grandfather probably never had an exam, just dime store readers.

About 20 years ago, I got bifocals. After about a week, I went back & got single lens for distance/driving. I DID NOT LIKE bifocals. And won't be convinced otherwise.

Burr... Is it my eyes or does the snow on the building make it look like a drawing? lol

I just got no-line bifocals and I love them. I don't need them for reading but I need them for driving and looking at the dials/etc on the car dash. Our schools are closed here for at least tomorrow and maybe Thursday, too. We are MINUS 50° with wind chill here. ugh!

Hope your ear appt happens.

I'm excited for you getting new glasses and seeing things clearly again! I got progressive lenses which I think are similar to bifocals because I can see far away and also close up although I can see close up without glasses too. Anyway, I'm happy for you! Hope the hearing aid appt went well too!

I'm happy about your new glasses and am looking forward to reading about your hearing aid. Thank you!

Hi, Glad your glasses are ordered. Do you need glasses just for reading or for long distance also? After my cataract surgery, my long distance vision is good without glasses. However, since I need glasses to read and work on the computer, I opted to get progressive glasses which I can wear all of the time... I also chose transition ---which turns them into sunglasses when I'm outside.... Hope you like your new glasses ---and the hearing aids once you get them...

Hugs,
Betsy

Yes, I'll do a post on them when I get them

It will be a while before I get the glasses. Polar vortex has a scary sound to it

Ann said...

I didn't like bifocals the first time I had them. Back then I didn't really need them like I do now though

Ann said...

Oh my, that sounds like it could get confusing with all those glasses

Ann said...

Not sure how long it will take to actually get the glasses but I'm sure they'll get approved. This time around he said he wants to see me back in a year rather than 2 because my left eye is weaker than my right and he wants to recheck it in a year. It looked ok so far though

Ann said...

It is expensive. I remember the last pair of glasses I got, I was a bit shell shocked when they told me how much

Ann said...

Yes, she is pretty amazing. The hearing aids alone were awesome but then for her to go for the glasses as well. I still have a hard time believing that all this has gone through.
I didn't like bifocals the first time I had them but I don't think I really needed them as much then as I do now.

The cheap readers are what I've been using. They work pretty good

Ann said...

A doctor once told me that there are different brands of bifocals and if you can't adjust to one you may be able to adjust to another. But he also said a small percentage of people can't adjust to any of them in which case he said that if dollar store readers will work for you then just go with those and don't waste the money on the bifocals.

Very Burrr :)
I suppose it could look a bit like a drawing.

Distance used to be what I wore glasses for but it seems lately I need them for reading small print more than anything

Ann said...

Thanks, it is pretty exciting.

Ann said...

It will be a while yet before I get the glasses but it will be nice

My old glasses were for distance and I just wore cheap readers for reading. The new ones are for both. I could get away without the distance but things are a bit fuzzy the further away they get

I think I should look into the "readers @ pharmacy" as I hardly ever wear my prescription bi-focals as I have to take them off - when trying to read say titles in the library or when I'm crafting at an event. Here at home, they are never on my dial :-)

I ended up getting some bifocal glasses a few years ago but I still just use my readers.
