Busy busy

Some may know and some may not but I work in a small independantly owned grocery store. I'm the store bakery manager (among other duties). Since this whole carona virus things started and people wre going crazy running to the stores and cleaning out the shelves, our store has gotten a little busier. Once the Walmarts were cleared out people started filtering out to smaller stores. Since that started we have been swamped. We are all doing our best to keep things stocked but they are buying things faster than we can get them out. I got home from work last night and I was done for. Dinner, a little lounging and a quick post and I'm calling it a night.

It was the same here, people shopped a lot, not knowing what was coming. Now we are told to stay home and order what is needed on-line. Oh, this crazy world. I hope that you are keeping well and safe!

So have you changed your hours or policy? Many stores here now have the first hour reserved only for seniors to shop, and are closing early each evening to clean.

Please take care of yourself! And thank you for taking the time to share with us.

It's chaotic here. The grocers even have the police force inside & out to contain brawls & shoplifters if need be.

Our little grocery has been hit hard too...and I prefer their hamburger, and I swear even their deli meats are better! I hope things slow down some soon. And I hope you rest well.

All of our stores are being hit hard like this and it is scary to think of just how crazy people are getting. I believe that we are in for a few months of this type of crazy though. I certainly hope not though!

same here, same all over the world. I know you are exhausted, are they buying a lot more bakery breads? I bought a couple and put in freezer, we will take out slices as we need them.. at 6 am today, when WM opened the lines were around the building. that is because they stock shelves all night and if people wait til later there is nothing on the shelves

I don't think we will ever take for granted those of you who work in our grocery stores ever again. Also the truckers and the bread guys and anyone who delivers the goods. And you Ann, make those lovely cakes --we truly need them.

I remember working retail and how crazy things would get at certain times of the yr....but never nothing like what you and others in retail have been facing. I did make it to the store on Tue., only cause at the height of this all here in TN came on Sat when I was moving. Yesterday I got out, but I was still not socializing. I drove over to the other house and did some cleaning and more packing. Crap...where did all that stuff come from?? haha...We moved while it rained so there is so much to have to clean now with all the tracking in and out. Crazy...stay safe.

Wow, you are on the front lines. Take care of yourself.

Pace yourself, Ann, so you don't burn out or get sick.

I understand people running out to get things but I wish people would just stay home. That does not help in keeping the spread of the virus down.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scratches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

I don't know what is happening in our larger chain type food stores (I'm in New Zealand) but what I've been doing when I have been out, is supporting the smaller stores. Even though I don't really need a cake/slice/other to go with coffee at home, I go to Rampant Cafe. Sometimes I get the tail-end as they are only open until about 12.30 a Mom & Pop store with young family. But I also buy from the bus station mini mart...
I'm not into panic mode, I know I will find enough to eat wherever...and I do have enough food of one sort or another. I've got a friend, a newer one than my old network who got in touch "yell out if you need any thing/do"

We are not formally in lockdown, but our borders are all closed except for returning NZers, PI people and then all must self-isolate for 2 weeks. A few people who came in before new ruling on who can come in, got arrested and deported. And no cruise ships unless they were already in NZ waters.

Cargo can arrive on ships and planes...

And now events are being cancelled, and latest thing that kind of affects me is libraries, rec-centres and somewhere else I forget.

It's all changing ever so fast...STAY SAFE EVERYONE wherever in the world you are...KEEP MAKING THINGS...
