Sandra posted about the Green Man. I had never heard of it before but I said the post reminded me of Mr Yuk. I got the line "Mr Yuk is mean, Mr Yuk is green" stuck in my head. Sandra said she had never heard of this and I said I thought they came out when my kids were growing up. Turns out they were from the 70s. I didn't realize they were that old.

Good grief! That's enough to scare kids to death, AND give them nightmares! Too bad they don't put those stickers on poison anymore though. I had never heard of The Green Man either!
I had never heard of either The Green Man or Mr. Yuk. I'm just as glad I hadn't!
It was very scary for the children in the 70s ... but not anymore! They have now the Transformers or all the robots cartoons and they are even scarier than this Mr. Yuk!

Mr. YUK definitely made his rounds in Western P A. I heard the song in my head as I was reading your post. Thanks for the memory (I think). We still draw a similar face on stuff around the house.
I've never heard of the Green Man or Mr. Yuk - I must be too old or is it because I live in a different country. lol
I will have to ask Bob, but he left PA in 1970 so probably not. must have been a local state thing. he sure does his job well, in the 70's I had two small kids and worked and rarely watched a TV at all. struggling to survive. that may be why I never heard of it
I dont remember the words at all, but the face feels sort of familiar.
A follow-up on Mr. YUK
Yuk™ was created by the Pittsburgh Poison Center and was the first recognized poison prevention/poison center awareness symbol in the U.S. Since then, Mr. Yuk has been used to educate children and adults in the U.S. and internationally about poison prevention and to promote poison center awareness.
That explains why Ann and I in particular were familiar with it. I'm pretty sure my exposure was while the kids were watching Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.
don't remember anything like that, but then again I wasn't in the USA...nor at the time was I in NZ, rather I was a teenager living in the UK. Probably wasn't even on my radar...
but definitely a scary advert...probably not PC now! :-)
