The trees

"The trees are coming into leaf
Like something almost being said;
The recent buds relax and spread,
Their greenness is a kind of grief.

Is it that they are born again
And we grow old? No, they die too,
Their yearly trick of looking new
Is written down in rings of grain.

Yet still the unresting castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness every May.
Last year is dead, they seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh, afresh."
-  Philip Larkin, The Trees

I found this poem on this page and thought it was quite appropriate for these pictures.

Love your photos especially the last one! Our trees are just like yours. Soon they will be completely full and we will be enjoying the shade and beauty they provide. I won't think about all the raking come the fall as I love trees.

Perfect poem!

How pretty! Somehow, spring always seems to catch me by surprise (one minute naked trees and the next minute there are leaves everywhere :o)

You live a good 400 miles north of us, and yet, your trees look to be at about the same budding stage. Does this mean that we ain't been livin' right?

I love that last shot Ann. The understory of the forest is growing fast so there are only a few weeks to get in before it become too dense.I can't stay away from buying flowers, I am going to try not to today.LOL
