What's better than a parade? A parade that goes right by your house. I'm never late because I can hear it coming down the street and all I have to do is step out my front door and I'm there.
No parade is complete without the marching bands. We'll start with my daughters favorite marching band, The Northwestern Wildcat Band
Several other high school bands also marched in the parade. The last one to go by was playing a Kiss song. Now tell me, what high school kid doesn't want to rock and roll all night and party every day?
Naturally there were animals in the parade.
OK, so maybe Grimace isn't technically an animal but I needed a third picture here.
Of course there was much more to see. There were fire trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, clowns, the martial arts students and so many others. The whole thing maybe takes about 15 minutes so it's not huge but it is fun to watch.

Thats fun! I wish a parade went by my house...I run out to see the herds of cattle being driven by the local cowboys..heading home! ;D
What the heck was the occasion?
Oh, you knew I'd love the marching band!! ;)
I live in the country so I only get to see or rather hear Rednecks playing their dang music really loud as they go down the road. Of course I can only hear the boom boom boom part.:(
Lucky you to live on the route of the parade. Loved the pictures. Go Wildcats!
How fun that you get a front row seat to the parade! We bet the goat was looking for Duke!
Oh Ann ..... up and down my eyes have travelled on your post and at first I thought the girl band were marching in bare feet ... but surely they couldn't be could they?
Me too! I love parades! Any bagpipes?
Grimace is cute! Reminds me of Barney, the purple dinosaur.. hehe
What is it? A mascot for a chocolate product?
It's my favorite band cuz I was in it for 7 years! I miss the band!! The costumes are still ugly as heck though.
This looks like a whole lotta fun to watch :) and its passing by your house.. how cool is that :)
Who doesn't love a parade? Thanks for letting us tag along :o)
how awesome is that! a parade down your own street =D
WOO HOO! They put on a parade for Duke? Wow, what a town, but where's the picture of him riding on his float? You'll be publishing it next time--right?
Talk about your front row seating! :)
Looks like a fun parade.
Happy Monday!
xo Catherine
I love parades. We try to take the kids to the local university's homecoming parade--the fire engines and the live bear (the mascot) gets us every time!
and how funny to see grimace in there:)
Nice to have the proximity.Like the goat , perhaps a blue ribbon winner.
That grimace must be sweating buckets inside!
When I was a kids we used to have a village fate on a yearly basis and this was always started with a parade marching up from town to then announce it open...it didn't go right by my house as I lived in a close but it wasn't far.
A lot of community spirit has got lost over the years and so has the fate which is a pity as I have some wonderful memories from them!!
I like what you did with the pictures. Of course a parade is always fun. If it goes by your house it can't get any better.
How fun. I would have been out there watching this too. Love a great parade.
Have a terrific day. My very best to Duke. :)
Julie, I think that watching the cattle would be just as much fun as a parade
sharkbytes it was the last day of the local fair. They have a parade every year
Lin yes I did, I was thinking of you when I did those pictures :)
Jean I hear plenty of the boom boom boom going by my house. It drives me nuts
Beaded tail, it is great, even if it rains I can sit inside, stay dry and watch the parade through the window
Kloggers, it does look like they are marching in bare feet but they actually have on tan colored shoes.
Grace sadly no bagpipes. we're more of a redneck hick kind of town...lol
Nessa he's one of the McDonal's characters. I would much rather see Grimace than Barney, that show always drove me nuts :)
Amanda I'll send you the pictures if you want. I made sure to get them just for you.
Anny it is fun, not real big but it's a big deal around here
Jen any time. it's fun taking you guys everywhere I go :)
Roschelle tell me about it. I was really excited when I first moved here and found out.
Fishhawk Duke had a bit of an attitude and refused to ride the float, he was hoping for grand marshall status
Catherine yep, just drag a chair out to the sidewalk or if you're feeling lazy just sit on the front porch or the curb
Nico how cool having a live bear in the parade. We see animals but none of wild variety
out on the prairie ya know, I never did check out any of the barns this year. He very may well have been a blue ribbon winner
vanilla seven I bet he was but it was still a little on the cool side that morning so it probably wasn't too bad
allotments4you it's a shame that some of the old traditions are disappearing.
Russ thanks, since I had so many of them I wanted to post I figured this was the best way to do it
Sandee I read the schedule and it said that the parade started at 10:30. At 10:00 I heard the first band just a couple houses up. I guess the time was for the show at the fair grandstand. I would have been really mad if I had missed it.
I bet that is great fun having a parade right outside your door. Love the goat and the horses. Great pictures.
Have a great week.
That would be so much fun to have a parade go right by your house. I love the school bands.
That is so cool that it goes right by your house. That is so considerate of them to do that :)
Marg it's great fun. I look forward to it every year, rain or shine
b boys mom i always enjoy listening to the bands.
tahtimbo I think so too :)
Parades are so much fun and I love seeing the horses and animals. How cool to have them parade right by your house. Love it.
Poetic shutterbug, there's not much I don't like about the parades, except maybe the little surprise packages the horses drop right in front of my house....lol
