The last few days

Well I survived that 11 hour day at work on Sunday. Surprisingly, it wasn't exhausting like I thought it would be. It went relatively fast and I didn't even need a nap when I got home. It was a busy weekend at the store though. I think people are getting tired of being cooped up and were just ready to do the whole picnic thing. We sold a ton of deli salads and bakery items were moving fast as well.

Catherine mentioned in a comment that she thought it was interesting that we are short staffed and that where she lives there would be hundreds of applications. I wish that were the case here. It seems like no one wants to work, it's easier to live off welfare or in some cases unemployment with the extra cash added on.

Jean commented that my schedule was brutal and asked if my boss works as hard as I do. The answer is absolutely. He is right there with the rest of us. On top of all he has to do to run the store he  has also been working as the butcher since our last one moved on to another job. He's tried to train a couple of youner guys but they didn't work out and the one that he hired off the streets worked 2 days and never showed up again.

Moving on to Monday, that was a quick day as I only worked 4.5 hours. I got home, mowed the lawn, took a nap then went to my daughters house for some picnic food. Burgers on the grill, pasta salad, cottage cheese, baked beans and apple pie. She showed me the nest they have on the back steps at her apartment. These steps neve get used but still not the safest place for momma to build

Oh my gosh, I have never seen a nest like this that is not built in a tree! I cannot imagine why she did that. I always love hearing stories about your store! Yes, the grocery stores have been SO crowded!!

I think you are getting young! 11 hours of work and not tired! That's an achievement, right?
I hope everything will be fine with the little birds and they will grow up! Are there no cats in the area?

Hope the little birds make it ok. I'm amazed at how your store cannot hire reliable help.

I remember one time there was a guy on the street corner with a sign "Will work for food" and was offered a PAYING job, but refused it because it was a job of labor...he didn't want to work THAT hard. So, it's not surprising you can't find workers.

That nest photo...priceless.

I echo what Ginny said, I have never seen a nest out in plain sight with no camoflauge.. they are adorable. prime targets for ground and air predators. Maybe the mama has covid-19its and flipped out. so glad your days went fast and well and that you were busy, time flies faster when busy... bob says all of this chaos is creating a new generation of bums that don't want to work

You really do work so hard and I know everyone appreciates it...even though some might not act that way! Love that sweet little nest. How precious!

That was a long shift. We did lots of 12 hours shifts when I was working. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore.

Sorry you can't find folks to hire. Some people have no work ethics at all.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

It is hard to find good workers in ANY field, and even more so in jobs that require physical effort. People (of all ages) just don't have the work ethic of the past. It seems that people think they are all entitled these days and our government is leaning towards encouraging and supporting that notion. Not sure where we are heading when everyone wants a handout and don't want to work. I applaud you, Ann. You work so hard for your money.

It's crazy...I am earning more money on unemployment these days than I did on the company payroll. I work part time and was given the extra $600 on my UE check because of Covid. It's nuts. I can see why some people are in no hurry to go back to work. Me---it's driving me crazy! I take that money and put it back into the economy.

Oh...I would worry about those birds. I am afraid some predator is gonna find those babies easy pickins. :(

Glad you had some energy when you got home. I agree 100% with people now staying home because of the extra money. Not good at all! Glad you had some family time on Monday. Yes that is a very strange place for a nest.

I'm so glad you had some family fun Monday afternoon. And I'm glad your boss is in there too. That helps a lot. Take care.

Ginny, I know, isn't it crazy

Ella, I surprised myself by not being tired after that long day. My daughter has two cats but they are both inside cats. They've been watching the nest through the window. There must not be any others prowling around there.

Laurel Wood, me too. I guess no one really wants to work

Anni That's half the problem. They want a paycheck but they don't want to do anything for it.

Sandee, It was a long day but I think I'm getting used to them...lol

Lin, it really is. they want a paycheck but don't want to work for it.

CheerfulMonk, Thanks me too :)

If you are busy, time does go faster...specially if you know what you are doing. I can remember being new at a job, and even though busy, time went so slow.

Boy, i hear you about the no one wanting to work. My daughter has been doing the work of three people for so long now. I don't know how many she has hired, and no one can keep up, or will even try.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

The robins are sooooo sweet.

Oh wow! Not a good place to build a nest! I hope mama can raise them safely to fly the coop!

Many of the people who lost their jobs or were made redundant during LockDown - can't actually get a benefit/welfare as they significant other is probably still working; so either because they need to contribute to expenses, they go find "anything" even it's beneath them.

Much of the food retailers, couldn't open at all...it was all about the chain supermarkets so they were busy as. Many people got night-fill jobs which meant that regular staff concentrated on day serving. Plus a lot of the regular workers if they were over 70 had to take enforced leave.

over 70s were supposed to just stay home, whether they were fit or not...I heard that some supermarkets continued to pay them through the many weeks, but it wouldn't be a full salary - possibly 80%.

Some retailers are still not open properly because there are strict regulations - so like my fav cake cafe (does coffeet etc) it's a window servery...

Those baby birds are so cute, but the nest really is in an awkward place. Hope nobody disturbs it...
We seem to have a nest in one of the bushes in the garden. I only ever see mom and dad fly in an out. I don't want to get too close, though.
