The daylily

I have some lilies growing on the side of my house that I've always called tiger lilies. When I decided to post a picture of them here I thought I would check to make sure I was calling them by the right name first so as not to appear less than knowledgeable. What I discovered was that I've been wrong. They are actually day lilies. Oh well now I know. And now you also know that I was less than knowledgeable about my lilies.

At least you got the Lily part right Ann. I would have totally messed that one up. No matter what they are called they are lovely flowers.

BTW, love the new look blog :)

What Theresa said. At least it was a lily. It's indeed a beautiful day lily too.

Have a terrific day. My very best to Duke. :)

If it's any consolation, it looks like a tiger lily. Great shot, BTW. How long does your lily bloom for?

I have always called them Tiger lilies as well lol. I still call them that even though I know better now hehe. I love them btw, lilies are just so beautiful, they are one of my favorites!

I love lilies of every kind - doesn't matter what you call them!

A lily is a lily and this is extraordinarily stunning. The water droplets, amazing. Love it.

My wife has a bunch of those planted around the house. In fact, there's one on a shelf above my head right now. You see, the one time I mow the lawn (she was out of town on business that week), I murdered one and it didn't occur to me to hide the evidence.

I love day lilies and that's a beautiful color too! Maybe next year I should try to make a bit of a flower bed too.

Wonderful picture Ann. It is funny because Maya and I just dug some up yesterday. No, not out of someone's yard. Actually on the edge of the woods. I should have taken pictures.

A lily be another name is different. Whoa, that sounded plumb profound!

But now you are more knowledgeable and also the happy owner of gorgeous Day lilies that remind me of Tiger lilies :)

Love the photo, and the water droplets on the flower make it look like I could reach out touch it. I love that color too.

We have a lily plant in out front yard but sadly I wont be able to see any flowers to classify the plant. I deer came by and bit off every single flower bud. At least I got to see your flower.

Theresa yeah that should count for something

Sandee at least it's better than being all wrong

urban cowboy I just never realized there was a difference. I don't know how long exactly but it seems to me I have flowers throughout the summer

Tanyia you can call them whatever you want, it's ok by me :)

beaded tail go figure, at least I'm not the only one

grace, lilies are beautiful. there's actually a lily festival near by I think sometime next month

poetic shutterbug, water droplets always seem to add to the photo

tahtimbo no need to hide the evidence if you can come up with a good cover story like you wanted her to come home to see the house adorned with flowers as beautiful as she is :)

bossy betty why thank you,

roschelle maybe i'll let you have the camera just as soon as I get bored with it :)

Audrey I don't really have flower beds it's more of a scattering of this that and the other thing

Russ I was thinking of doing that the other day with some flowers I saw growing wild along the road

sheri it would make a good desktop background, I'm about due to change mine too

donny thanks and hugs to you too

vanilla seven they are bright and cheery

fishhawk very profound you are one deep guy.

LDH who knew I could still learn something new. Could be because of all the room up there from all the stuff I've forgotten over the years.

Leeuna you can reach out and touch it go ahead, but please wipe your fingerprints off the screen when you are done

Anne i doubt that I will ever have to worry about deer coming into my yard we're too populated right where I am.

Ann that is wrong. They are 'Tiger lilies". They have been my favorite for many years just because I had a wonderful dog whose name was Tiger Lily. I have them all over my yard but they haven't bloomed yet. When they do I will put it on my blog. They are also day lilies. But they are definitely Tiger Lilies. LOL

You are not the only one calling them Tiger Lilies because that is what I call them. Now I know to call them Day Lilies. I just read Marg comment and I guess we were right all along.

Marg Can't wait to see the pictures of your Tiger Day lilies...lol

B Boys Mom When I looked it up it said that the two are frequently confused because they do look similar.
