Manic Monday

I think I need a one way ticket out of here after the high anxiety morning I had today
I awoke to the sound of thunder at 2:30 this morning. When the alarm went off at 4:20 I discovered that the back  yard was flooded, and it was coming in to the basement. Wade informed me that the sump pump wasn't working which means that when it fills up it's just going to keep right on filling the basement.
Neither one of us could miss work so we had to leave and hope for the best when we got home.
The drive was anything but pleasurable. We had rain, we had fog (thick as pea soup) we had flooding and we had huge ice chunks washing in to the road. I  have never been so happy to reach my destination as I was this morning. Yikes, that was scary.
I came home at lunch time to check on the basement and the water level in the back yard was receding and the basement hadn't taken on any more.
All is calm in my world once again. I'm giving myself the nigh off from any responsibility of any kind and I'm putting my feet up and taking it easy.

I understand your feeling. I had that last spring, no fun. Hopefully you don't have much to clean up.

What a day, Ann!! Especially driving in bad weather and broken sump pumps....2 of my own biggest nightmares. Yes, relax now by all means!

That does not sound like a good way to start the week! Glad your basement didn't flood though and hope you're able to relax this evening!

I'm so sorry to hear this. This is NOT the way to start the week. I hope you can get the pump fixed and that everything turns out okay.
Hope you have a nice, relaxing evening.

I'm so sorry about the sump pump! I hope it's a relatively easy clean-up. Putting your feet up sounds like a great idea. Hope tomorrow is a brighter day for you!

Whoa, you-all really did have quite a time. Did you put a life-preserver on Duke before you left?

Jen said...

Oh no! Ick. Hopefully the pump will be an easy repair (I'd forgotten about those things). We don't have them down here; mostly 'cause we don't have basements *grin*.
Sure hope today is a better day for you girl!

Hope you get dried out soon. Maybe that awful storm marks the end of winter? Let's hope so ...

Not fun waking up to something like that. It has happened to me in the past.I bought a house one time with no sump pump. It had the sump hole but was hidden under the stairs. One day here came the water. Flooded the entire basement. Ruined a few good rugs and some furniture. Also real fun cleaning up. Luckily we had a floor drain in the laundry room.
Good luck with the water.

so happy it did not get worse and you were to work safe and sound. hope the sump pump gets fixed in time for the next rain. we don't have basements in FL but I know about sump pumps from friends who live up north. what is a coin tainer?

I'm glad it didn't get any worse and that you didn't have to build Duke a boat. I know he likes to swim but the basement probably isn't the best place for that.

Good idea, that sounds like the right thing to do after such a stressful morning. Nothing worse than driving in bad weather. Hope tomorrow is better for you. Take care.
