What to do with a daisy

When I was trying to come up with a post for today I had the picture ready but needed something to go along with it. I don't really know why but I suppose it's because I just can't stay wordless and just post a picture.
So I went in search of "what to do with a daisy"
The first thing I thought of was of course the old game we used to play. Pluck a petal off and say "he loves me" pluck another and say "he loves me not". When you got to the end of the petals you had your answer. Mine was usually a not. Just my luck.

I also came across a song that I hadn't thought of. If you are old enough the following chorus may sound familiar to you.
Daisy Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet on the seat
Of a bicycle built for two !

Do you know who wrote the song and when? It was Harry Dacre way back in 1892

I also found another interesting tidbit of information about riding a virtual bicycle. Read about it HERE

Now that song is stuck in my head. Thank you very much. I do remember that song. Sang it as a little girl until my mother almost went batty. Just saying.

Have a terrific day. My best to Duke. :)

I've never heard that song before but have played the "he loves me", "he loves me not" game before. After a string of nots, I didn't play much anymore!

What to do with a daisy - why make a daisy chain, of course! I used to love making daisy chains - usually with the tiny little daisies but sometimes I would throw caution to the wind and make yards and yards of dandelion daisy chains. Girls would decorate trees with them, wear them on their heads, around their necks and make belts with them.

'How beautiful the daisy chain when its worn upon a glossy mane! How wonderful the daisy's eye as it watches all the world go by!'

Thank you for the wonderful memories of the daisy!!!! :)

Yup, mostly certainly remember that song - we learned it in school. I bet they don't sing much in school any more...

I used to sit in the fields for hours with my kids making daisy chains which we would make into tiaras, bracelets and necklaces...fun cheap and good for hand eye coordination. We also used to get up early in the morning to watch the daisies open up with the sunlight!

I LOVE daisies!! Probably my favorite flower next to the sunflower :)
They are both such happy looking flowers and you just have to smile when you see them.
Have a wonderful Friday!

Whoa, I have kinda hinted at you being a hottie, but for someone who is around 108, you are beyond unbelievable! Oh, but I just had the thought that you would have had to have been at least in your teens for that guy to write a song about you. So, that would make you around...drat! My trusty Casio calculator just gave up the ghost. I'll be back as soon as I figure it out longhand. Yeah, it may take a while.

Did you know there are other verses to that song as well. At one point, I knew the whole thing, but it has been replaced by more important things like remembering to feed the dog. Your daisy photo is gorgeous. Did you do something to it?

There is a certain freshness with daisies. You need to start with loves me not and it will work out, they have the same number of petals.Have seen them already blooming on the prairie, but mine in the garden are slow. Have a double petal.I think today I will take a ride and am sure your introduction to the song will come through.Need a tandem.

Hi Ann,
Thank you for stopping by and commenting on this week's alphabet-post for "R".

If you boil and mash rudabagas like mashed potatoes, you have a nice vegetable side-dish that goes well with pork, sausage, hot dogs and the like.

I feel as if I took the easy way out this week because I used a lot of "borrowed" photo-material and jewellery made by other artists. I am not ready to show my new summer collection and I thought I could help some friends rather than to not blog at all.

And now to your post here:
It was in upstate New York. My paternal grandfather, who played the organ in the Methodist church every Sunday, would play and sing songs like that on the piano for us, when we little, when we came to visit at Christmas and in summer.
Sometimes, I when I close my eyes I can return to that world - without computers, cell-phones, air-conditioning and adding-machines.
Sometimes I can once again wander about their house looking at photos and scraps of paper that I now wish I had access to. A young brain remembers well.
So many memories awakened by a few verses of a popular song. Ask me and I will sing it for you!

Hugs,
Anna

That article on a virtual race was kinda interesting. Wonder how long before we get avatars...that would be extra cool.

Polly mentioned making a Daisy chain and all kinds of memories came to me. I use to love picking daisy's and making a chain with them.

Like your post title, the nice photo and the wonderful song though I am not that familiar with it or perhaps I could remember if I heard it with a tune. So for now I will just keep plucking out the petals while saying "She loves me. She loves me not. She loves me. She loves me not... (until the last petal is plucked out with "She loves me.") Hahaha! Just trying to be funny though.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and wonderful weekend!
