I stand corrected

In my post the other day Grace left me  this comment:
Um, you don't stuff manicotti - manicotti are crepes not pasta and you fold them. I did a whole post about manicotti LOL If they were pasta tubes then what you stuffed were cannelloni. I know Americans don't know the difference even Italian-Americans often don't know the difference but manicotti are my favorite thing to eat (tho boring to make - making a bunch of crepes is tedious).

Well what I stuffed was this pasta labeled as manicotti. I guess Walmart isn't any more Italian than I am.
Does that make it an im"pasta"r?

Donna wanted to know where the picture of my dinner was. I forgot to take one the day I made it. Here instead is a picture of my leftovers.

Whatever you want to call this stuff, it was delicious.

I buy the same kind, and stuff it. What do you stuff it with? Do you put sauce or cheese on top?

No, I don’t think you are an im"pasta"r. Thanks for the chuckle, and I learned something new today. It looks delicious!

It looks like Manicotti to me.

I'm part Italian, albeit it, 1/8th but, just enough to understand the differences in manicotti and cannolis.
Cannoli is sweet and manicotti is savory.
I watched my mom prepare both. Mannicoti are NOT crepes...
Read the two recipes below, in full...
Hope this was helpful Ann...so you and WalMart were correct!
You're welcome.
Hugs,
Donna

Stuffed Manicotti (pasta shell) VS Rolled Crepes

5 ½ ounces manicotti pasta
1 pint part-skim ricotta cheese
8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon dried parsley
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 (16 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce

Directions
Cook manicotti in boiling water until al dente, about 10 to 12 minutes; drain and rinse with cold water.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Mix ricotta, mozzarella, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, eggs, parsley, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined.

Pour 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce into an 11x17-inch baking dish. STUFF

(THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO GET THE FILLING INTO THE MANICOTTI PASTA SHELL OTHER THAN BY USING A PIPING BAG)

each manicotti shell with 3 tablespoons cheese mixture and arrange over sauce. Pour remaining sauce over the top of the shells and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly, about 45 minutes.

You can Also use crepes and in that instance, you have to Roll the filling onto the crepe.

CANOLLI CREAM RECIPE (USES CREPE THEN FRY OR BAKE SHELL)

RECIPE

Ingredients

½ cup
Whipping Cream
1 15-ounce container
Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese (strained)
½ cup
Powdered Sugar
½ teaspoon
Vanilla
¼ teaspoon
Ground Cinnamon
⅓ cup
Mini Dark Chocolate Chips

Directions

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Place the cream into a small bowl and set aside.

2. In the same mixing bowl, add the ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mix on medium speed.

You can either place a large dollop of filling onto an unfried crepe, ROLL IT, then fry...OR...fry the crepe shells then STUFF or fill with a pastry bag.

Okay so I was thinking as I read this that I had no clue what manicotti is and I have seen that bag in Walmart but have never eaten it or even seen it cooked and had no idea what would go in it or how you would stuff it and certainly would not be wrapping Crepes around anything and by the time I got to the comments and read all the comments I had decided it doesn't really matter because the stuff that's in it even though I would love love it I can't eat anymore my stomach started hurting just reading it plus I would never ever do all that work I would only try it if it was put in front of me pull the truck the recipe hurt my head and I don't own a Piping Bag

Inpasta.....nice. LOL.....

Donna: no one mentioned cannolis - I said cannelloni which looks exactly like what Americans call manicotti.

No matter what we Americans call it. Manicotti is delicious!!! The name of the dish is trivial.

I'm Italian and we've always called it manicotti. I usually use the giant shells though if I can find them! Yours looks really good!

What you made is manicotti and it looks wonderful!

I looked it up before reading the contents. Keep calling them manicotti:

manicotti
noun
man·i·cot·ti ˌma-nə-ˈkä-tē
plural manicotti
: tubular pasta shells that may be stuffed with ricotta or a meat mixture
also : a dish of stuffed manicotti usually with tomato sauce

From the dictionary.
