All good things must come to an end

How sad it is that the weekend is almost over and it's back to work tomorrow.  We had such beautiful weather and I spent a lot of time playing with the camera. I have so many things I want to show you I hardly know where to begin.
I guess I'll start with this guy who was busy working over the weekend. I found this on the back side of one of my chairs out on my deck.
I can't believe I actually got that close to it without freaking out. What's more unbelievable is the fact that it didn't mind me being there and almost seemed to be posing for me.

That would have freaked me out. Just saying. Very vivid images though. Glad you had a great weekend, and am sorry that it's coming to a close. I so remember.

Thanks for being one of my best droppers for May. Your avatar will be on my sidebar the month of May.

Have a terrific evening. My best to Duke. :)

I'm getting chills just looking at it. We have some of those "things" try and build nests in our bar-b-que every year.
Tell Duke that Koko and Yum Yum say, "Hey"

I'm not even close to it and I'm freaking out! Yikes!

Hugs to Duke!

How big is the beehive actually? It looks huge in the picture. Greatly captured!

I don't do bugs of any kind in any way - what is that thing?

Lin said...

I hope you smushed that thing when she wasn't looking. I've been finding those bad boys EVERYWHERE lately!! And so you know, there are little eggs at the bottom of each one of those honeycombs. Ick.

OMG, You are a brave one. He scares the *&^% out of me. It does look like he was posing for you though, Wow, amazing!

Mother....i think you've completely lost your mind getting that close..I would have screamed and ran like hell. The things you'll do to take a pic i tell ya!

Whoa, you keep getting great shots like that, and the National Geographic people will surely be knocking on your door (or visiting you in your hospital bed).

Russ said...

Wonderful shots. Don't worry about what anyone says. Unless you are allergic, you'll just swell up a bit after they sting you.LOL
Interesting to see if you squished it.Do it when it cools down later in the day. They don't move so fast.

By the way, did you know that at least a red wasp can still sting you even after their tail has been cut off? I know that for a fact from the empirical evidence gathered during a scientific study I conducted while I was in the second grade. Sadly, no papers were submitted for publication because of my finger swelling up too much to hold a pencil without a great deal of pain, and pain is something that I have always tried to avoid when possible.

Brave shooting a yellow jacket wasp on it's nest. That would scare me. I only shoot them on flowers. LOL!

But he does appear to be posing so maybe he's proud of his hard work and happy to show it off for the camera. :-)

Now did you knock it down or is this the chair of death?Real good closeups.

wow..that's close Ann...at least i hope it's taken very close up...otherwise we have huge scary critters that are going to make me cringe..."shudder"

Anne said...

I hope you got rid of it after taking your amazing photos. We don't want poor Duke to get stung (not to mention the rest of you). Those are some really amazing viewpoints.

Leeuna said...

Ouch! I can almost feel that stinger. Great closeups. You're a lot braver than I am. Have a good week.

Lenox Knits said...

Wow. That last shot is amazing. So much detail and clarity. I'm very impressed!

That's a really cool photo. But are ya gonna let the squatter stay for good?

Ugh, I hate bees. They scare the crap out of me. I have to share my porch with them. How the heck did you get so close???? :-)

Marg said...

Those are really good pictures but I would have had to end his fun. You do know that all the brothers and sisters are on their way.
Have a great day.

Sandee, maybe one of these days I'll get to be a lady of leisure, hopefully before I'm too old to enjoy it...lol

Tahtimbo yep, had one in the bbq also. they seem to be all over the place. Duke says hey back to Koko and Yum Yum

Beaded Tail LOL I guess the camera is just making me crazy :)

Vanilla seven it does look pretty big in the picture but it's really not that large. Maybe an inch or so long

Grace Ya know I can't tell the difference between a bee, a wasp and a hornet but I do know it's one of those things :)

Lin heck no I didn't smush it. I made Wade do it...lol

Poetic Shutterbug it was funny how he kept sitting still and facing the camera.

Amanda you've known for years that I've lost my mind. I believe you and your brother are in part responsible for that :)

FishHawk I hope they won't be bothered by Duke's barking when they knock

Russ yep, what's a little sting. Could get me a day off work :) And if I am allergic there's a pharmacy right down the street where I can get one of those kits.

FishHawk EWWWW that reminds me of the one that I killed at work the other day. When I swatted it, it broke into two pieces and the one piece was wiggling away like crazy. Made my boss step on it for me...lol You should have gotten yourself a secretary to dictate your findings. You could have been famous by now

DKMiller well I wasn't sure at first but since it was so accommodating I just kept going

Out on the prairie Like I told Lin. NO I did not knock it down. I made my husband do it. Although now that I think of it there are some people who I would love to have come over and sit in my chair...lol

allotments4you the camera was very close to it.

Anne My husband was just about to knock it off the chair when I came out with my camera. He probably thinks I'm crazy but he's used to it by now...lol I should go check I think he took care of it but I'm not sure

Leeuna Luckily he kept his stinger to himself.

Lenox Knits why thank you, I was pretty impressed with it myself when I got it on the computer

Audrey it's not the first time I've been called insane....lol The camera makes me do things I wouldn't normally do

Donna ROFL That holy wasp batman sounds like something I would say

urban cowboy no way he's gonna have to find himself a new homestead.

Cashier How do I get so close? Very slowly and very quietly...lol

Marg Oh yes they try and vacation in my backyard every year and they always get sent away, not always a permanent thing though.

The face only a mother could love! That last picture is especially good!

Ann said...

LDH thanks, I impressed myself even...lol

Bossy Betty yeah, you would have to be it's mother to love that face. Freaky eyes on those things.

Sheri said...

Wow Ann! Those are great shots! I saw two yesterday under the railing of the pool deck and you have inspired me to go out there and take some pictures. You're right...they didn't seem to mind me being that close either. I wonder if it's because of the time we were out there (6:45 pm). I swear they were chasing me while I was on the deck Saturday and Sunday afternoon!

June Zach said...

One of the rarest moment you will get a capture like this. That is fantastic Ann! Like it much! ^_^

Erika said...

I am freaking out just looking at this photo. Eek!

Ann said...

Sheri, I can't remember what time it was that I took those. Hope you post yours if you get some shots

JuneZach thank you, I take the moments when I can get them :L)

Nico LOL, I still can't believe I got that close without jumping.

Great photos! I would have taken the photos and then had hubby go spray the nest to get rid of it. I'm so allergic to these things its scary. They built a HUGE nest under our deck and I ducked under the deck to get something out from under it and they nailed me. I didn't even see it coming.

Ann said...

split rock ranch my ex was allergic to them too and he would get all freaked out when they were buzzing around him. His father always had a sting kit but he never bothered. I think my husband got rid of the nest when I was done, I should go check

Ok I had to post one more comment: I love the wasp pictures!!!! Bugs to me are fascinating probably because for being so small and easily unnoticed, they can be really detailed and complex! I mean just look at that wasp!
