Picky Picky

From day one I was buying Purina puppy chow for Duke. When he got a little older I stuck with Purina. One day the store had a special on Pedigree dog food so I bought it. Duke did not approve. He wouldn't eat. Even though I had a full bag I went out and bought another bag of Purina. I guess he was holding a grudge because he still didn't want to eat.
Since I had heard somewhere that Westies should be eating lamb and rice dog food, I spent the extra bucks and bought him some of that.
I ask you, what is wrong with this food?

Here, take a closer look.

Guess what Duke thought of it?

I'm blaming this whole thing on the human father who insists on saving something on his plate for Duke.
There is a second part to this story so stay tuned.

Uh oh. Plate/human food is frowned upon, right? Or is he spoiled with freshly cooked chicken breasts and rice?

SO funny! My dog eats the same food you have pictured :)

Uh Oh----I've heard that 'table feeding' dogs is the WORST thing you can do for them....Sounds like Duke is learning to be 'picky' now --like us humans!!!!!! ha

We could not change our dog Kelly's food she would not eat. We were very bad too and she did get food from our table too. But she couldn't beg or she didn't get any. I guess we just love them to much. Kelly has been gone now for about 3 years. We still miss her very much. I look forward to hearing the rest of the story.

I imagine human food tastes a whole lot better! Moon eats all of his food AND some of mine - the little piglet.

Well, it doesn't appeal to me, but then again I'm not a dog. But I do side with Duke so far. My friends cat will only eat Sara Lee sliced turkey hand fed to her. My son's cat throws up whether she eats dry or wet food, and will only eat at 3 A.M. when she wakes him up. When they didn't play by her rules, she lost five pounds. Not my daughter-in-law, the cat! So Duke is easy compared to my friends animals neurotic eating problems!

Human food is always better! Sometimes I don't want to eat either but mommy puts some treats in my food and I end up eating the whole thing. I guess I like to start with dessert!

We had a dog who would eat anything - except low fat cream cheese. She wouldn't touch that. Didn't matter what we put in her bowl - she ate it - fruits, vegetables (she liked broccoli) stale donuts that had been buried under 6 feet of snow - she ate it. My wicker rocking chair, the wooden window sills - she ate them too!

Oh oh Duke.... watch it or mom will give you the "Eat your food... don't you know there are starving pups out in the world who would love to have this food?"

Well... I'm a picky eater too.... :)

I agree with BeadedTail - human food is so much more yummy!

Tanyia, guess I should have thought of that sooner

Lin not by Wade it's not, I keep telling him it's all his fault. We don't regularly cook for Duke but Wade will make him a little burger when we have burgers for dinner.

Live laugh photography he is something else

betsy me too, I don't think Wade gets it though :)

Tammy I've never had a dog that was so picky about eating

Reeni I imagine you're right...lol

Ginny they do seem to have some of the strangest little quirks. I've had cats that had distinct eating habits :)

beaded tail treats always seem to be the answer

Grace Duke's the first dog I've ever had that has been fussy. My chocolate labs would eat anything although they didn't go as far as yours with the furniture and the widow sills...lol

catherine I think I'll have to resort to that lecture.

our dogs wolf down their dry dog food and always have, even though they do get small tidbits of people food. but i had a dachsund for 15 years that turned his nose up at any kind of dog food. the only thing he would eat was a tiny can of mighty dog and it was so expensive we could no afford it. we just fed him table scraps and he lived to be 15.

how long do i have to wait for the rest of the story... i am waiting impatiently.

Hahahaa....poor human Dad and I agree...Sorry!!!

I Always fed our pets "people" food as well as their regular dry nuggets of total crap...Hahaaa...!! And ALL four pets lived to be 18 and 19 years of age...Our Danko especially liked raw onions and brocolli...and cantalope.
For my cat, Kiki...Real tuna was her treat...
I always felt you Had to add to a pets diet...and I know that Chicken may be first on the list of ingredients...but...that "chicken" is so minute an amount, you may as well just be feeding your pet hay...

To Duke: I'M WITH YOU BUDDY! HANG IN THERE!!Hahahaa

Claudia says that is normal. All dogs should have some human food mixed in with there dog food. When we first got her she would eat her dog food up right on schedule. Now it is a bit different. Karen decided to give her some people food one day. I warned her. Now when we come back from lunch everyday she sits by her bowl waiting for the leftovers. So now everyday we bring back vegetables and a little meat. She actually loves any kind of vegetable. At least it is the good stuff.
We sure do spoil our pets.

Thats why we have animals to eat leftovers. Duke hold on, there are treats under the table.

Ann said...

fishhawk , don't we all

sandra I confess I give him treats from the table also :) not long of a wait for the rest of the story

donna I'm only pretending to be tough, I spoil him also just not as much as Wade does

Sugar aw, so Duke's not alone huh? we'll be over to read later

russ, I suppose if it's good for us how can it not be good for them

out on the prairie, I tend to agree with you and I've always said that a floor is cleaner if there is a dog in the house :)

if.. if he has tasted human food... i am sure.. he would not want dog food.. *LOL* every dog is like that... they are smarties.

Dukes are usually wayyyyyyyyyyyy smarter :)

I never had a dog that refused to eat something. Duke is clearly royalty.

Marg said...

Well that is probably the answer.Daddy is feeding Duke some really good food so why in the world would he eat just plain ole dog food.

Ann said...

Anny he's tasted LOTS of human food

sharkbytes me either. Every other dog I've had has eaten whatever you put in front of them

marg yep, exactly. He even goes as far as frying him his own little burger sometimes.

Sandee said...

This sounds familiar. Hubby also feeds our Little Bit, so if she doesn't want to eat her food she just waits for dad to eat. Smart little critters aren't they.

Have a great day. My best to the well trained Duke. :)
