Calculating

Way back when I was first married and my daughter was just a wee one, I used to carry a calculator through the grocery store. I had just so much to spend and couldn't go a penny over. I'm back to that method of shopping. Not a big deal really but Gibbs has one question.

He wants to know if I budgeted in for treats. But of course I didnGibbs.

I understand what you are saying...retirement and only bringing home 49 percent of what I was bringing home SUCKS. But...I probably spend more of the babes to eat then me.

I am glad you are calulating for dear Gibbs, since he sat so still for your photo shoot. I did the same thing with the calculator when raising my kids, I did the calculator thing until 1989 when we moved in this house. the three years alone like what you are going through now, I took it in every store. once in Krogers in Savannah, someone told me to watch out for them, that they scanned items twice to make more money. I took my calculator with me the next time and said to the girl, last week a cashier scanned my groceries and overcharged by double scanning. I made her re do the whole thing. this is a heads up, if your total doesn't match mine, we will have a do over. it came out perfect

I don't use a calculator, but my habit for many, many years has been to keep a running addition on my grocery list when I shop. It keeps my brain working.

Gibbs is adorable!

Have a good day today dear Ann ~ Love, hugs & prayers ~ FlowerLady

Many of us did this, probably still do. My problem lately is items that don't make it to the bag. Watch for this girls!

We are very frugal and always check our receipts. I hate how often they overcharge for things. He sure looks like he deserves a treat today!

I remember those days. It's not a bad thing, but it's not something we really want to do. I'm glad you thought of Gibbs.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and tons of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

I keep a running total in my head as things go in the cart - my husband is always amazed how accurate my estimate is, I'm never more than $2 or $3 off the final bill. I don't know how I do that since math is not one of my strong suits. And yes, in years gone by I carried a calculator with me to the grocery store. Great Gibbs photo, and yes the pets come first. I remember the days when my grocery cart held more things for the cat than for me!

Gibbs has a really pertinent question! I think you should take him with you to the grocery store and sit him in the child seat. I think he wants to choose which treats look the best. With maybe a short stop at the butcher counter.

Yeah, having enough money to buy dog food has been a bigger issue than buying stuff for me

I would lose track if I didn't use the calculator

I haven't run in to a problem with double scanning or over charging thankfully

Ann Thompson said...

I may not want to do it but there are worse things I could be doing

Ann Thompson said...

You're better than I am, I've tried that before and I lose track of where my total is

I've seen people I Walmart with dogs in their carts. They aren't service dogs so I'm surprised they are allowed to take them in the store

Oh Gibbs you're looking so handsome! I don't think your Mom would let you go without treats! Whenever I budget I end up going over then have to dip into something else to cover it. Groceries are so darn expensive nowadays.

It's so cute how Gibbs is so serious about his dog treats. lol

Such a sweet picture of Gibbs. We often use chewy.com to save $ on our pets' food/treats. When John was first disabled, it took months for SS to get his checks to us; it's always a good idea to calculate what the bill should be due to careless or tricky cashiers!

I never used to think much about it when I went to the grocery store. I took for granted that the m9ney was going to be there. It's not easy making one income stretch enough to cover what two used to

Treats are a high priority with Gibbs lol

I sure hate the times of life when things are that tight. Hope you get this figured out.

I remember trying that years ago but I was no good at it. I do believe Mark will be putting my on a very strict budget very soon with his retirement. I wish you great success.

If you ever said you couldn't budget treats for Gibbs... you'd have boxes arriving at your door from everyone who sees his sweet face. What a cutie.
We need a better budget for sure.
