Oh Brother

Saturday was a mostly relaxing day with just a little bit of housework thrown in. The biggest project for the day was pulling out my Brother sewing machine

I had watched a youtube video earlier for an easy face mask. I can't find the video again but it was easy enough that I could remember exactly what she did so I sat down and made a few new masks. Definitely a good way to use up some fabric scraps.

Instead of using elastic I used t-shirt material. It's easier on the ears. I found an old shirt I didn't wear anymore.

I cut 1" strips off the bottom of the shirt.

Then you just stretch the material and it rolls in on itself and makes a nice cord to use for the masks.

If I was thinking I would have made the straps just a little bit longer because I want to put buttons on my hat for work. That way I can loop the straps around the buttons and I don't have to have them around my ears. Even though these are more comfortable than the elastic I still have issues with them getting tangled with my hearing aids when I try and take the mask off.

They are awesome! I just ordered some that are this shape, I like the shape. And they are so pretty, too! I love the pink polka dot one. Now we all have one more accessory to coordinate!

What a clever idea for the straps! And I love the masks too. I hope you had plenty of time for rest too --- I wish you didn't have to work so hard.

What a great idea with the straps. These are very cute. I'm glad you had a day off.

I saw those t-shirt ear loops on the surgeon general's website...good idea. Once you get done with store work...take it easy.

I like this design and the idea of t-shirt loops. I made the pleated masks with elastic - when I remove the mask it takes my eye glasses with it. If we're going to have to wear these for any length of time I shall need to get trendy (haha) and make more perhaps trying your pattern and the t-shirt loops. You're always full of good ideas.

bob has problems with his mask and hearing aids. we switched to cut the arm off of t shirt and he looks like a bandit, just pull it up like a bank robber.. maybe those would work for you.. they are more comfy. these look good to me and i like the idea of the non elastic

I have a fabric mask someone gave me but I can't wear it. I feel like I'm suffocating for some reason! I will be glad when the time comes we don't have to wear them anymore!

You done good, girl! I wondered how the t-shirt would be for around the ears. The one I wear most is t-shirt but used the tshirt material for the tie.

These are good - I like that shape - I have masks that just have those pleats in the front and I think your style is way better. I may look for some and buy them. Also the soft material for the loops - WAY BETTER than elastic. 4 of our masks have elastic and quite frankly we don't use them, we use the masks that have the soft stretchy material. Plus, my husband has a big head so the soft stretchy loops fit better.

Ginny thanks. I wore the pink one at work today.

CheerfulMonk I can't remember where I saw the idea for the straps but I like them so much better

Anni The t-shirt loops are awesome. So much more comfortable than the elastic

Kate, thanks. I was going to do the pleated masks but then saw this one and it was so easy

Grace, I liked the shape too. I was going to do the pleated type but ended up seeing this one. The t-shirt material is way better than the elastic. I wore this one on my ears all day at work today and it didn't bother me at all. I was also able to pull the mask down easily.

Marg, thanks.

Briony, I wish we didn't have to wear the masks but most place require you to have them on.

Great job...I am down to two from four. I ended up giving one to my grandson before purchasing him some and then I sort of FORGOT and put one in the micro (WIRE, so not the best thought)!!!!

i use rubber bands and fold a man's handkerchief when I walk. With my sunglasses, hearing aids and the mask, it's a lot of a hot mess with my ears! Your masks look great. Will try the t shirt loops. thanks for sharing♥

Catherine, thanks. I wish I could remember where I saw the video instructions so I could give credit for the design

Pam, thanks. I've been looking for a pattern that was relatively simple and this one fit the bill

Susan I imagine the rubber bands get very uncomfortable after a while. The t-shirt loops are so incredibly comfortable. I can keep it looped on my ears all day and it doesn't bother me at all.

Those look awesome. I love the button idea. Were you the one who posted that on Facebook. Very clever.

I've made all the masks that I want to for now. I think I shall buy some moving forward. They are time-consuming, aren't they?? I saw the t-shirt idea awhile ago...such a better solution to the elastic. I think we are all going to need a stack of masks for the long haul.
